The Sadiqayn: I Can Get Trapped If I Lie
A Milad un Nabi & Wiladat of Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) Activity
On the beautiful occasion of Milad un Nabi, the birth anniversary of our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w), and the Wiladat of our 6th Imam, Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.), let us help our children learn about one of the beautiful qualities associated with them both — truthfulness.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) was known for his honesty and truthfulness even before the beginning of his Prophethood, and Imam Ja‘far (a.s.) is famously known as al-Sadiq — the Truthful.
Through this simple hands-on activity, children can actually see how one small lie can lead to another, until we become caught in a web that is difficult to escape. This activity can represent other bad habits too not just lying.
🌱 Learning Activity: The Web of Lies
Ask a child to hold out both hands.
Take a piece of yarn or thread and loosely wrap it around their wrists once or twice.
Explain:
“Imagine this piece of yarn is one little lie.”
Ask the child to try to break free. With only one or two strands, this should be quite easy.
Now begin wrapping the yarn around their wrists several more times.
As you wrap, explain:
Sometimes when we tell one lie, we have to tell another lie to hide the first one.
Then another lie to hide that one.
And before we know it, one lie has turned into a whole web of lies.
Ask the child to try to free themselves again.
This time it should be much harder.
Talk together:
What happened when we kept adding more yarn?
What can happen when we keep adding more lies?
How can we free ourselves from a web of lies?
Now carefully use a pair of scissors to cut through the yarn.
Explain that telling the truth helps us break free from lies.
Sometimes telling the truth after we have made a mistake can feel difficult, but being truthful, admitting what happened and putting things right is always better than adding another lie.
✨ Our Milad Message
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) taught us through his character to be truthful and trustworthy.
Our 6th Imam is known as:
Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) — Ja‘far the Truthful.
So on the occasion of their blessed births, let us practise becoming children who are known for telling the truth too.

How to Play
1. Print the “I Can Get Trapped If I Lie” activity sheet.
2. Hole-punch beside each of the numbered lies.
3. Start with Lie No. 1 and thread yarn through the holes, following the numbers from one lie to the next.
4. Keep going until all the lies have been connected.
Look at Jameel now!
He has become trapped in a web of lies!

There is only one way out…
TELL THE TRUTH!
Use the Truth Scissors to carefully cut through the yarn and free Jameel from his web of lies.
Remind children:
«One lie can lead to another.
Tell the truth and stay free!

- What should you do if you have already told a lie?
